I`ve just been over to the Beeb site and someone was saying how nice they were. I`ve tried in the past and the crop was very light and they turned woody so quickly-have I missed something?

Thank you for this thread Stefan! I've always thought they looked lovely and wondered whether they're worth planting.

Trevor_D

They're horrid! Even when picked young they taste of nothing, and if left it's a bit like eating the choke bit of the artichoke!

(If you read around, you'll find quite a number of things described as tasting "a bit like asparagus....or lobster....or whatever...." Don't believe a word of it.)

Nice decorative plant.. For eating, I found it was akin to chewing underfelt ...

Waste of time and space imo.
Smile, it confuses people.

You have to pick them at about 1- 1 1/2 inches max. XX Jeannine

I agree with everything everyone else has said!!!!!!!

Mrs Ava

Yup, pretty, but tastes like grass.  Would grow in the garden, but not for the crop.

Truffle

Another vote for poor culinary value, but very pretty in a border!

I grew them twice.. once to eat... waste of time... once as a decorative edging but not since..

Oh  :( :( :(   Asparagus and peas are two of my favourite veg. so I'm growing these for the first time and was hoping for a really tasty crop - not grass and underfelt  :( ;D ;D

real food

They are a complete waste of space as a vegetable. Growing them once was quite enough!!

I've got some in a greenhouse bed......

After reading this thread I wish I hadn't.......

Still, if they don't perform I can always pull them up and compost them!

We did pull them up and compost them.
Didn't like them at all. :(
