Datura - can anyone help please?

I've been asked to find out about a datura someone's been given cuttings of. Thought I'd remember its name, but obviously not :-[

It's a white datura, will grow to about 40" apparently, and the name ends with "ii"....something like 'whitii'  ???

Googling doesn't give me clues - can you?

Well some of those pictures on the link look like 'thorn apple'. I treat it as a weed because the seeds spread everywhere.

I cannot see the reason for cuttings, as although it is described as being half hardy, basically an annual and will die soon.

The seed does not come true very often.

She was told she'd need to grow it in tubs cos they're tender & can winter over in the g/house? Dunno. Don't think it's the prettiest plant I've ever seen, but if that's what the lady wants... :o

It's also called moon flower? it flowers at night and smells divine? same one???

Just in case someone reading this isn't aware, daturas can be lovely and nearly always have a great scent, but every bit of them is poisonous if eaten.

We have a brugmansia (same family) outside in a large tub, that has huge orangey pink flowers that smell amazing.  Every year the frosts seem to kill it, but we cut back the dead wood and it sprouts again.

Twas the potential toxicity wot did it.....first great grandchild is just about on the hoof - better to be safe than everso sorry..
