arrived back from holiday to find a parcel waiting for me in it my seed potatoes carlingford and charlotte, it says i need to chit them should i do this now and when should i plant them?

was gonna try in the ground didnt think i would chit them but the leaflet they sent me was generic do you think theyll be ok in the ground kill or cure i guess
