I have a little trouble with making the Bearded Wonder eat produce that I have grown/food made from produce I've grown and fruit picked from the hedgerow.  ::)
Yesterday I put a bowl of lettuce on the table and guess who found the baby slug ;D ;D ;D "what's this " said he, waving the leaf at me. "it's only a baby slug " said I trying to supress my mirth. He chucked the whole lot in the bin :o
I think I may have to marry someone else or give up my plot.......I'll marry someone else. ;D
I wanted to say that it could have been worse, it could have been half a slug! Has anyone else unwittingly eaten or served up similar?

Tiny woodlice in raspberries,I eat 90% up plot  so unwashed, it is the crunch that gives it away.

I thought it is a great name for a pub too!

Last night I brought some lettuce home from the plot. Found loads of slugs and three snails.  They were tootling around the sink as I was washing the leaves.  I said nothing to the family and just kept my fingers crossed that I'd found all the critters.  ;D

Deb P

OH ate half a wasp that must have got mixed in his chinese noodles whilst it was being cooked, only found the other half at the bottom of the bowl...... :o

I am also pants at washing veg it seems, I'm always finding slugs crawling about the salad drawer in the fridge where I've washed stuff and put the not used lettuce etc in...... ;D
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

Nice name for a pub ;D
;D ;D ;D ;D at Ace. I find it difficult to fathom why a pub chain would call themselves by such a daft name. Who knows, next it could be 'The Dog and Poobag'.
( ps Wandering and meandering welcomed ;D)

this thread has made me laugh, sorry if it's off topic, there were two eating places in York called just that, maggie, I thought the thread was about them  ;D
greenfly on lettuce, and catties, now I go down the salty water route, at least they're dead then  ;D

Tin Shed

I'm sure that there are pubs in London with the same name.
The children will never forget the time I served them a variation of broccoli and sauce ....with whitefly. Don't really know why they made a fuss, its only protein after all!!!! Then of course there is the blackfly on globe artichokes - it really could be black pepper unless you look really closely and see the legs!!!!

cazy

This thread is a perfect example of a good old meander.  slugs and lettuce to pub names.  (you can meander over me anytime)

Also one of those occasions where I feel a cross reference applies, anybody else ever think of that?

Naughty girl, back to the topic.  I get the odd slug in the cupboard under the sink where my bin is, yuk, but I never let on so keep it a secret.   :-X

Been in' Slug and Lettuce'in Worcester and Stratford a few years ago tho'.

Take him out to dinner Emaggie, upset the waiter, and after he's finished his meal tell him what they do to the food of a customer who upsets them.  He'll never complain about your cooking again.

In my student days I used to work in a hotel, I only ever complain if I'm not going to eat my meal or go back to the same place again.   ;D

Only I wash the lettuce from the plot in our household now! When hubby last did it son's (now-ex) girlfriend found a baby worm. She asked me what it was AFTER she'd chewed it. Still don't know if it was the worm or the holiday in Bulgaria that caused the end. She was a nice girl too.  :)
If I ever get it all right - then that's the time to quit.

saddad

I work on the principal if they can't eat it... it has been poisoned so I don't want it!
;D
