Jeannine

I have read on several postings lately about babies coming and sometimes have to bob about looking for updates,I thought it would be good to have a progress post.

So I will make a start, please join in as it is very special to read others info.

I am a bit out of touch with baby gear so thought shared info for buying/knitting might be useful to us all.

Our Grandbaby is due February to my youngest son Barry and his wife Marcianna who live in Holland. It is my son's first at age almost 40!! All is well so far which is smashing because sadly they lost the first one.

okay,my daughter is expecting her 2nd baby on 15th october, they already have a son, Callum, aged 8 and they, too, lost the last one..
this one's a boy, no names yet, Callum wants Bart or Moari, him and his dad are mad rugby fans and apparently, it means something to them  ;D

What a good idea for a topic, especially as I heard last week that my daughter is expecting my first grandchild in February. I am trying to think what I want to be called, Granny or grandma makes me feel too old. What are other grandparents called.

manicscousers

I'm grandma as my mum in law is nanny, now that seems older to me  ;D

Jeannine

Well I will be Oma as they live in Holland and John will be Opa. Actually I prefer Bubbe but we will see.XX Jeannnine

We're Nana & Grandad, but that's a family tradition - our son had two Nanas & Grandads.

I just love being called Granny to my 5 grandchildren (not that the latest one can say it yet) always wanted to be even when I was much younger and my own children were small....had this image in my mind of wearing those gorgeous granny boots (button up ones that you wrap those long laces around) very stylish I think ;).....they look great with the long skirts I wear 8)

Lots of people 'Granny' as a very old person but I love being a 'modern 'young' Granny'

Thought you might like to see this taken last Sunday of me with my youngest Grandchild Jack when it was his Christening Day....he will be one year old on Tuesday 24th.

he has an older brother (9) and a sister (7) on the 28th!

Hot potato That is a great photo. I am Nan/Nanny to all 8 g.children. To Joshua I am Nanny Lorna and his other Nan is Nanny Marlene. My middle daughter's 3 call me big Nanny and Linda is called little Nanny (not because of me being big but Linda is so very very slim ;D).

Paulines7

I am called Nannie.  My Mum was a Nannie and her Mum also.  Does anyone else spell it this way?

Contrary to what manicscousers says, Grandma seems older to me!   :D

Our first grandchild has a Dutch Dad and was brought up bilingual.... in Birmingham  :o :o ;D ;D
So we became Opa (real grandfather) and Oma Anne (he also had his Dutch grandmother and Peter's ex is Oma Judith.) Sadly Peter's first wife died before the grandchildren were born but at least they got extra value in having 3 omas at least for a bit.

We share 8 grandchildren - 5 of his, 2 of mine and 1 that has the same mother as my two but a different Dad.  They all call us Opa and Oma.

This is my Lucy playing with the webcam in my bedroom.

Hello,

Naomi, my daughter is due to have her first child and my first grandchild on Christmas eve. She and Tom are very excited and have already chosen names. Ieuan for a boy and Isobella-Jane for a girl.

I dont mind which it turns out to be, but quite fancy shortening the girls name to Izzy.

Naomi has a scan in about 10 days, so we should know what to call bump from then on.

After much thought, I have decided to be Granny. We already have a Nanna and Gramma in the family. Phil is still undecided, but might go for ganki, as it is what they called their grandad.

cj :)

Oh I forgot we were told names the other day  too. A boy will be Alexander Jonathon and a girl will be Alexandria Jeannine.

You don't hang about do you Jeannine?

Nipped out to start the dinner after reading your last post in, ‘today in the rain’ and low and behold it's up and running.

At the moment Grandma is music to my ears ( my first grandchild too ani) and  after all I will be sixty next year when the little one arrives, but I have had thoughts today on what they will call me.

Both my boys called my mum and my mother-in-law nanny followed by their Christian names.  My mother absolutely refused to be called Grandma!

Inspired by Oma Anne grawrc.  My daughter-in-law is Polish, I will find out what they call their grandparents in Poland and if I like it, and can pronounce it, that will be my title.

Call me whatever you like, I'm going to have my first grandchild next year.  ;D ;D ;D

Aw, how exciting for all of you. Wish my parents had been this excited about my children.  ::)
Grawrc, I was so struck by how all the children are around Peter and looking at him. I love the bottom pic with the hat!
BTW - My grandparents are Nana and Gramps. To my girls they are Grandma and Gramps and my mum has been promoted to Nana!! I would like to be Nana too one day!
Hot-Potato- you do look like super cool Granny!!   8) Love to all your bumps!!
Don't throw paper away. There is no away.

Mrs Ava

My kids don't have a Grandma, they call them all, even the greats Nanny.  The only person I called Grandma was my Nans mum, so my great grandma.  My mum is Nanna, Ava's mum is Nanny, then we have the likes of Nanny Pat, Nanny Obe, Nanny Shipley and Nanny Lucas.  Grandads are grandads, not a lot of option there, but my Grandad hated it, so we all call him Taxi Bob - my nickname for him from when I could first speak - he was a London cabbie and the noise is so definate that I used to hear him pulling up in the cab and call out 'here is Taxi and Bob' and he has been Taxi Bob to every child and friend ever since.  When he owned a boozer in Appledore he was called Beaver Bob and in the RAF he was called Sleepy because inbetween shouts, he would sleep!  Never been a Grandad!
