 ;D
where do people store their pots?
i don't have a garage, but have the choice of either the shed or the cupboard under the stairs, which is best?
thanks people
ps they will be in hessian sacks if that makes a difference

Mrs Ava

If your shed isn't damp and is rodent proof and dark, I would go for the shed as it is cooler.  Under the stairs would be fine, but warmer encouraging the spuds to sprout sooner.

The shed is great in most years, but watch out for freezing conditions, a bit of frost outside is no problem but days of subzero temperatures will ruin potatoes.

In 1982 it froze for 3 weeks, and despite global warming, can and will happen again.

I have added a new potato page at last

Are they maincrop or earlies?

I ask because earlies don't store very well, so I would use the shed for them as we are unlikely to get any frost before you have used them up. Keep them in the dark as they tend to go green faster than maincrop.

If maincrop I would do as the others say, although I would be a bit surprised if you have lifted maincrop already.

they are charlotte, pentland javelin, deseriee, and king edwards

sawfish

This year I'm digging mine as and when I need them, they keep underground till January anyway.

manicscousers

you're lucky, sawfsh..our ground is that wet, the slugs would eat 'em all  ;D

sawfish

well so is mine (being Glasgow), but they only eat about a tenth.

I suppose I just like the process of digging em up and eating em, they always seem to taste better.
