Spuds Advice Required Please.

I can't find the labels I saved, so I don't know which variety of earlies and second earlies I planted, but I do know I'm dissappointed. They are large and the flavour is only ok. They seem floury when boiled too.
I like small, waxy, earthy flavoured potatoes. What variety would meet these requirements for next year please?

Nicola is a good tasting waxy salad potato in my opinion.

I have only dug up some Moulin Rouge so far and they were yummy in fact one was about 5 inches long  ;D

These were bought at a potato day and they had run out of Moulin Rouge so i got a couple of broken and bitty potatoes that were left but they still grew wonderfully. I am going to (dependant on the rain) pull some more for sunday dinner and try and roasted in goose fat yum yum yum yum

My Red Duke of York have been brilliant this year - 1st earlies.

My Lady Chrystl were very good - but I dug them all before this rain started to get serious. I'm now digging Home Guard, which has been my normal first early for years. Very disappointing - the rain has made them swell to much larger than they would normally be, the flavour is disappointing & they break up when you cook them. That's not how they are normally! It's the rain!

I'd recommend Lady Chrystl, though; 3rd year I've grown them and I think I'll stick with them.

I think earlies do get large and floury if left in too long, especially if there has been a lot of rain.  I grew Orla and the first lot I dug up were fine but a couple of weeks later and lots of rain there were some fairly big ones - used for chips and they were ok.  So secret is get them out when they are small.

My firsts are Accent, I've had boiled, jacket and chipped and they've all been lovely, my only tip to myself is less earlies next year and more seconds and mains as they keep better.  ;D ;D ;D

My favourite is Ballydoon... but only available at Potato Day as far as I know. Epicure but it does disintegrate and Red Dukes.

we like premiere, both in bags and the ground, very first early..got 10 seed pots for 1.99 from the garden centre, waxy and tasty  :)

Thanks all, that's some different varieties to look at! The other problem I found with digging them earlier was that the yield wasn't great.
