a quick warning to all.

The Little lady who has the plot opposite to me had a mishap yesterday afternoon.
She was picking beans when she stepped back. She had a 12" bamboo cane marking the end of a seed row which managed to slice her leg open from ankle to mid calf  down to the bone.
if it were not for the fact that quick action with a t-shirt and belt and the speed of the ambulance I hate to think what would have happened to her.

This is the lady who always puts the small actimel yoghurt pots on 4' canes and tells everyone else off on the site if they don't cover the ends with anything.

so to quote Sgt. Phil Esterhaus from hill st. blues  "Let's be careful out there."

Oh dear.  :( :(  That made me feel quite ill just thinking of it.  But I guess it is too easy to ignore the dangers of familiar surroundings, whether in the home or on the lottie.

Euuch. So glad she got quick help. A timely reminder, particularly now as we're starting to harvest beans and stuff: all too easy to turn round and lose bits of face to beanpoles.

I think I might also grab some paint -- I've a few bits of leftover gloss in bright colours -- and paint at least the top few inches of my bamboo stakes. I use bottles on the tops anyway, but sometimes Small and Tiny Triffid borrow the bottles while they're on the lottie playing.

A couple of months ago the guy in the next plot (he's pushing 80) stepped back on his plot, lost his footing and fell across one of my raised beds, cracking several ribs in the process.  The only other person around was well over 80, so he just kept quiet, picked himself up after a few minutes, but I think he was very shaken, and in quite a bit of pain for a few weeks.  He's back to normal now, thank goodness.

I have nearly gone flying a few times.

My plots uneaven and there are 'trip hazards' everywhere if it was a place of employment it would be shut by H&S people.

Picking up an industrial strimmer tomorrow so i might lose a foot or something  :-X

( i have asked someone to come up to the plot with me while i do the strimming just in case :-) )
