I would like to grow garlic and have a few shop bought bulbs (bought to eat).  Can I use their cloves, when should I plant them and how, and also how will I know they are ready to lift?
Also I eat quite a few peppers and assume I can use their seeds?  If so what is the best method - dry and store or plant right away?  Many thanks  :)

Yes but only use the biggest cloves even if it means buying more garlic.

Remove the seeds from the pepper place on a piece of kitchen towel on the window sill for a few days to dry.

When dry wrap them in a piece of kitchen towel or place them in a paper bag (not plastic) and store till sowing time next year.

I keep mine with the rest of my seeds in a biscuit tin in a wardrobe in the spare room.

Best of luck!!

And when TG says big, he means someting like this - if you possibly can.  Although any clove will give an edible return, it is well worth being selective, especially if you're short of space.

I put in a couple of rows of tiddlers for green garlic.
