That's a fantastic list Jeannine.  I'm a writer and I'm always trying to come up with good names for characters, I think I have to have an Alice Strawberry in my next masterpiece.  I quite like Veronica Romanesco too.

I've been trying for a couple of years to buy every member of my family a Christmas present of a plant with their name in it, still got a few to find, wonder how they'd feel about a packet of seeds for Christmas?!?

what an interesting thread this is.....I'm fascinated by names (especially in graveyards ::) but never realised so many veggies had 'human' names.

Couldn't see a Maggie or Margaret anything there tho! :'(

It seems that names and tomatoes go way back in history and not all documents are correct nor even as savoury as political correctness would now permit.

Fragments of writings from the Island of Lesbos have been roughly translated thus;

Aunt Madge had small plums and was also keen on Mr`s Taylor`s yellow pear(sic) Shirley was bigger but she had no taste and was shunned by those who prefered a small cherry.

Juliet had no time for Big Boys, and Tommy Toe was soon side shooted to become a Unidel.

Miss Pruden was seen becoming quite purple after having drank deeply of Brandywine

Jeannine

The tomato called Debbie is one of the 100 best of Dr Carolyn Male in her book. It does state how ever not available commercially .It is  listed in the US Seed Savers yearbook though from 3 members in the US.

I found a  Marge's plum.
There are several variations of Steve.

Mashenka is also listed by a member in the US.

Actually there are hundreds of tomatoes with names.
