Well, I'm going to anyway

Had a verification visit today - always a pain - verifier is unbelievably picky and inflexible "rules is rules" - took 4 hours to verifiy 3 portfolios..........

Then had to travel back home from E15, do this dozens of times so was expecting 90 mins to read the paper.  Not this time - Ticket inspectors get on, so I show my Oyster card.  Ticket inspector says, you can't travel on this train.............I explain I do every month and have had card previously checked.........I end up with a £20 on the spot fine and have to pay a single fare, even tho I swiped in at Stratford.

Then the train stops at Willesden, we all get off "trouble on tracks" then get to Richmond via Clapham Junction only to find I have been automatically fined another £4 because I didn't swipe out at Richmond - couldn't because I came through South West (are you all following this??)

Queued for a VERY LONG time to have my Oyster card checked and get a transaction print out, after 3 hours finally get home, spend 20 mins talking to the Oyster Help Line to get a refund.

I'm going for a lie down :'(

emmy, I'm goin' to see captain jack tomorrow night, luckily my grandson wants to see it so we're tagging along  ;D

I didn't know you could be 'automaticallt fined'...is that 'cos your Oyster card is linked to your bank? That's worse than CCTV....Where the hell is all this heading?

ellkebe

Hope you got the refund sorted SMP.   I hate travelling in and out on the trains for work - it's just one hassle after another, and don't even get me started on what I have to pay for the privilege  ;D

Just been over the lottie, nothing like a bit a weeding to make you feel better.

Ken - The inspectors have hand held readers that tell them what type of Oyster card it is - I have a pre-pay and apparently it is not valid on Silverlink between Richmond and Stratford ??? even tho it is linked at both ends and at various points along the way to the underground.  They took a debit card payment whilst on the train :o

Got the refund sorted and the nice man even spotted another £4 non swipe 'fine' that had been deducted, so refunded that as well.  Faith has been sort of restored.

We also went to see Pirates, I thought it was OK but the boys loved it, incl the 49 yr old one!  That was also the night that some *** nicked our bikes from the front garden - I hope all their extremities turn green and drop off.......didn't bother to report it- apparently because I am suffering from 'broken window syndrome' - from the mouth of our Safer Neighbourhood Sgt.

Taking a deep breath as the good karma from all that weeding is wearing off ;)

Broken window syndrome is a sort of slippery slope argument. It says that if you allow one window in a building to remain broken, soon all the windows will be broken or if you don't report minor criminal activity like graffiti, vandalism,  minor thefts etc... then before you know it the bigger crimes will become accepted & go unreported too.

Gotcha. Instead of giving these problems stupid names why does no-one try to actually do something about it? I can think of estates in my home city of Birmingham that would be so impressed of the summing up of their societal problems....!

You should report the crime even if you think nothing will be done about it. We had the car window smashed and the stereo stolen and didn't bother reporting it but a policeman we know said that if it isn't reported the figures for solved crime etc. are wrong (looking better than they should!) and if they do get hold of any stolen items they end up getting auctioned off as no one knows who it belongs to.

You might get lucky and whoever pinched the bikes might get stopped for something else whilst riding it, stranger things have happened.
Whatever it was I didn't do it but if I should have done then I have!

I had a bike nicked once. It was a Raleigh Lizard. Very distinctive and more so because of where it had had a speedo fitted to handlebars which had been snapped off by another theiving git. I did report it, never heard anything about it again until one day about 8 years later I saw it for sale in the 2nd hand shop at bottom of the road!
Bloody cheek! I didn't buy it!!

Meg

Well at least it was somethng that could be sorted just so tiring.
I went to see Pirates too and I thought it was funny. You really just have to accept it for what it is. I didn't think oh is it time to go home yet just sat down and prepared my self for hours of complete and utter enjoyment.

Gosh SMP what a nightmare journey home!

My mum also lives that close to the rugby ground, literally across the road between that and Tesco! She has MANY a nightmare journey home and she only works in Victoria!

Hope the weeks gets better :)
