Tall Trees

Can someone explain potatoes and earthing them up to me?

Is it done to all potatoes?

I just planted my potatoes in a level bed and have not touched them since.  They are now about 12 to 18 inches tall above ground.

Will i still get potatoes and if i do presumably the crop will be less than if i did earth up.

When do i dig them up.

Thanks, TT.

Earthing up does increase the crop, and also helps to reduce the number of spuds that break through the ground surface, go green, and have to be slung out as poisonous. When to lift - earlies can be lifted as required from the time they come into flower, maincrop are best left till the haulms start to die back. Let them sit on the soil for 1 day for the skins to toughren up, then store them in the dark.
