compost query

First year for using home-made compost, so please bear with me:

1. Dug out my dalek this weekend and left half of it (the bottom half...) in situ as the spade kept turning up lumps that were literally riddled with white mould.  Do I need to burn this or is this normal? No turning took place. The pallet Cold Heap was fine, no mould but a few straw-y unrotted bits.

2. Both heaps are Cold Heaps.  As I have a problem with Time Vs Weeds, can I use this compost for mulch?  I've buried a load in the bottom of the bean trench, being fairly confident that no weeds will grow through the muck & earth(!).

3.  Kept finding big, fat grubs all curled up in a tight loop; grey at one end (the head?) and that sickly translucent white the rest of them. I forgot my camera, so apologies.  The bodies were about the thickness of a woman's little finger and the diameter of their closed loop was approx an inch.  Do I leave them be, or try to stamp out my squeamishness while stamping out them?

4.  What other uses are there for compost...? Bit paranoid about spreading weeds these days after last year's moments of desperation!
