Growbags usually have a bit of fertiliser mixed in MPC doesn't.

MPC = multi purpose compost

All the MPCs that I have used have had nutrients. Much the same as bags. Some bags have more water retaining material in?

Our local GC was charging £3.99 for tomarite growbags and £3.30 for 70 litre bags of good quality MPC.  I know which I'd buy.

I bought some growbags last year for the first time because they'd been heavily discounted, but then mixed the contents with MPC  because that's what I've previously always grown in. Didn't notice any difference in results vs straight MPC but then I add tomarite anyway.

I did get the impression that MPC had better water retention but that's not scientific.

If price drops will try a genuine comparison test this year.

I never buy growbags but use a lot of multi-purpose plus I buy a potting compost base mix and make my own potting composts.

Depending on the price I might buy the odd bag of potting mix for growing stuff on in three inch pots.

If I am using bigger pots I make my own compost to suit what I am growing and what I am growing in. e.g. hanging baskets
