Hello,

I have always chopped some growth off the roots and shoots of leeks before I plant them out. I have heard some people say that this is unneccessary. I think I can see their point. After all, the leek wont have to recover from being cut, the root system will be stronger, and there will be more green leaf to make energy from the plant.

What should I do this year? Any advice please?

I used to many years back as that was the `lore`-but I stopped over 20 years ago

I never do, for the same reasons as you say.

Much depends upon how long the roots are & what sized hole you're trying to put them into.
If no problem then, as said, let'em be!
