Have I killed my raspberries?

Hello
I took over my plot last October and inherited quite a few raspberry canes which were still fruiting, so I assumed (possibly rashly) that they were autumn fruiting ones. I cut them all down to a few inches above ground level about a month ago and mulched them. I realise it might be a bit early for them to start popping up again but I am feeling nervous that I might have finished them off. If they are autumn fruiting ones, approximately how soon are they likely to start showing signs of life?

I don’t think I’d start to panic just yet.  Ours are just showing signs of life and several appear dead right now.  (Of course they may BE dead …  :o  )

I very much doubt that you have killed them.Raspberries can be propagated from root cuttings so you are likely to get a lot of new shoots apart from the original ones.

Regardless of whether they are autumn or summer fruiting varieties it is unlikely you have killed them. If they are a summer fruiting variety you won't get a crop this year as they bear fruit on two year old wood.

Phew, thankyou for the reassurance. I will keep talking to them and see what they do :)
