Roughly how much does double glazing cost?

We need to get our windows and front door replaced, but have absolutely no idea how much it'll cost. No one we know has had theirs done recently, so I turn to your wisdom...

We have one half bay window, two large, one medium and a small bathroom one, plus the door. Nothing fancy, just your standard, lockable type.

A lot!

But DO get at least 3 quotes. We don't have it, but we had one quote which was 50% of the others. That was from a firm in Cumbria - where life is more realistic.

And DO ensure you have a 'cooling off period'. = Tim

Wow! That's got to be the question of the month. Prices depend on quality, workmanship and rip-off criteria. There's good and bad in that world as in second-hand cars. Best bet is to let people here know your area and hope you get a reply from someone who has dealt with a reputable company.
One thing you could try; Have a look around your area, especially at houses that compere to yours, if you see a double glaze job that looks the bees-knees, knock on the door, tell the people you admire their double glazing and ask if they would recommend the company to you. Do that a few times and see what names keep cropping up. It's not cheap, take your time, do your home-work!

And play hard to get -we had some quotes (for new fascias &c.) and there seemed to be a good 3 or 4 levels of pricing from the big boys. We found this out because we couldn't make our minds up whether to have it or not and every time we dithered the price came down (all within a day or 2). So don't take the first special offer -maybe not even the second!
