Got no idea what I'm doing so here goes....

Oh darn! I can't get it to work. I'm trying to put in a pic from msn groups, I'm pasting in the location from the image properties. What could I be doing wrong?

Later that day.....

Ok so I've got it sorted now, here it is:

Ok well, heres a web link, that might work.

Anyway this is my balcony of many plants finally.  :D

Wow! Moggle,

Bet you need to be careful if you sneeze!  ;D

Is next piccie going to have things hanging of the railing too?  Good on you, am very impressed!

Doesn't seem to be the right url.  Perhaps the url name is too long and it got truncated.  Try pasting it into the address bar first to see if it works.

Multiveg

You sure you have enough tomatoes?  ;D
Nice balcony

Hey ther's no room for YOU out there!!!   :o

Now that's what I call a well stocked balcony. :P

Life is like nectar sweet but sometimes sticky.

Moggle

Thanks for your comments.

Eileen, can you see the white blotch in the bottom-right corner of the pic? Well that is my chair, there IS room  ;D Also, I have another balcony, same size on the other side of the flat to fill yet.

Multiveg, theres nothing like overkill is there?  :D

MB, I did seriously consider tying some wire wall-type baskets to the railing, and one of my neighbours has some kind of wooden, hanging setup which looks quite good. But as mentioned above, have the second balcony and will probably leave it at that.

Can anyone tell from my photos if the tomato plants look ok? My mother-in-law visited on saturday and said 'they look leggy'! I thought they looked normal, but what would I know.  :-\

Have more detailed photo at home, but still on camera and not in cyberspace yet.

Thanks all

I have to say that they are very leggy - like mine. But that doesn't mean that they won't produce just fine. Or there'll be trouble! = Tim

Moggle

Thanks Tim, they are Santa variety, which I see you've said in a previous post that you are growing, and that they do get leggy.

So I can tell the Mother-in-law that it's normal for that variety, and not start a family feud over her criticism of my little babies?

Oh, and should I be doing anything in particular to fix it?

I think all you can do for your toms is to replant them, and replant them as deep as you can.  As they are outside on your balcony they should slow down now so that should be fine.  Plenty of light, and don't over water!
Mine always look lanky and I always worry as the ones at the garden centre always look stout and butch in comparison, but I always do well and have more toms that I know what to do with!

(could I have said 'always' anymore times in that post?  I always say always to often.  Always been a problem of mine... ::))

Wicker

Hi Moggle, I have a balcony too and I'm really impressed with yours!  I only have flowers (two planters with 'troughs' in them,3 wall containers and ivy growing up a trellis from a trough but grow the veggies and shrubs etc at the lottie.  You've shown real initiative.  Congrats.

EJ, what do you mean you always use always too much? I always think it's good you are always so encouraging to others and always ask the questions that some of us are  always thinking of asking!  Keep it up lass
Equality isn't everyone being the same, equality is recognising that being different is normal.

Moggle

Thanks for the words of confidence and advice EJ. Here's hoping for more toms than I can manage.  :D

Wicker, I cheated a bit in that photo ;D, about half the plants are going to end up on the other balcony.
I guess I wanted to prove that I could grow stuff, and keep the enthusiasm up for longer than one season before I went to all that work on a lottie. Also, I am renting, so could be moving in about a year, so don't want to end up with a lottie 20 miles away from my house.

At this rate though, I am fully obsessed and I'm planning on getting the lottie next year.

Moggle

Ok and here is the other balcony with the strawbs and the potatoes, and growbags ready for tomatoes and peppers.

Looks a bit sad now but should be better soon.  :)

Mimi

Strange Moggle, went to reply to tell you that I couldn't see your last piccy and there it was under the post/preview buttons.  Looking good from here :D
Take time to stop and smell the flowers.

Mrs Ava

Doesn't look sad at all!  Strawbs look very good indeed.  I think grow bags are amazing - they look so little and limp and yet they can support a couple of tom plants and provide you with enough toms to last the whole summer long.  You keep taking these pics - I love to see them, as I am sure we all do, cos we are all nosey gardening parkers!  ;D
