I'm really embarrassed about my name appearing again, but I just have to ask another -

Sown 8/3 - poor germination - this is only one tray - grown on at 65-70F - if it were couch, it would be out & walking - so what's up?? = Tim

Hi Tim-it does that, one year germinates like a weed -then another makes one feel like a fool. But I now have got the over wintering right,so if all else fails, and we do get to see you in August I will bring you a plant.

Stephan.

So they overwinter?? And send up more shoots?? = Tim

 ;)
If it's any consolation, mine look almost identical to yours!! I got so fed up with them taking up a whole seed tray with a very low germination rate that I transplanted them all into a 9" pot, and they seem to be doing a little better.
I bet it grows like a weed in Thailand.....

Tim my plants spend the winter and early spring in here (literally in my study)-I cut the watering down and only water from the bottom, this seems to stop them rotting.

Any day now I will split them and pot into 5inch pots, then into their final home of 10 inch pots of JI No3. By the second year you should have some some stems thick enough to use plus plenty of smaller ones to grow on as described.

I grew my lemon grass from a stalk from the supermarket and it just gets bigger and bigger.  Mine lives in my greenhouse and gets watered when I think about it  :-[.  Will definately try some seeds next year.

Good God - a year to wait??

If I had known. .....It's not as though one actually needs the stuff! = Tim

Well, tis worth growing not only for thai dishes but according to the chef-ette Sophie Grigson, when you make home made lemonade, make a syrup up with ginger slices, crushed lemon grass stems, sugar and water leaving it to simmer gently for about 10 or so mins, then add  the strained syrup to the juice of a couple of lemons and some fizzy water.  Grown up lemonade she reakons...to be grown up for me I would need a slug of something boozy  :P, but that's just little ole me......hic  ::)
