If you live near to a farm you could just drive in to the farm and ask if they'd sell you some. I see you are in Birmingham so maybe you don't have a farm near to you, maybe pet supplies type store (pets'r'us or whatever) or riding stables if they are near. Do you get a weekly free paper? there may be something in the small ads? Good luck.

My local "pets at home" sells straw - think it's supposed to be for feeding the little animals, but straw is straw, no?
Thank you to all who donated to the Moonlight Half Marathon Walk in aid of St Catherine's Hospice - my mum and I raised just over £300!!!    ............     Thanks!  :-)

Wyevales sell small bales of hay and of straw in their pet department. I remember seeing them and thinking of pathways, but I already had a couple of bags of bark chips, so I didn't buy any. T'would be a bit expensive though!

our local farm sells them, suppose we're lucky that way  :)

£1.50 per squarey bale - I get them from a farm shop in the country, driving out to Downham Market from Peterborough. That journey is ace, Saturday mornings can collect up to six bags of FREE pony poo too, just have to keep your eyes peeled ;)

Bunjy you could always use barbed wire to keep them kids of yours in pmsl
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Bunjy, i've just googled straw bales lincolnshire (as that's where i'm based) and it took me to 'straw & hay merchants' on the yell.com website - have you looked there yet? You could give it a go, you never know! Good luck x
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened

Bunj, I know that you're in Erdington & your Mum's in Sutton....was wondering, do the police have any stables near either of you? Could be a good source of muck AND straw? I'm gonna try the Tally-Ho stables here in S.Brum when I've time...think they're Edgbaston/Selly Park way...good thinking or wot? 8)

The police got rid of their horses a few years back; they used to have a field for them over the back of my site, which is now used purely got dog training and occasional sports.

For your paths - You could use wood shavings. Most landscape gardeners often sell their shavings from jobs they have done to increase their income, and save them paying to put it in a tip! If you are really lucky - you may get it for free. Ask your local council what they do with all the shavings and wood cuttings from their jobs. Usually they sell it on or you could get their first.... ;)
