Just a little moan, following on similar lines to Tims veggie thread.  As most of you know, daughter number one is seriously allergic to eggs.  Tomorrow at school, as part of their food project, the class are making gingerbread men, all except my daughter, and another girl who is lactose intollerant.  Why, because the only recipe that is school approved has eggs in it.  Not a happy 7 year old told me this and she wanted to know why I manange to make gingerbread men with her.  Substitute the egg for milk I explained.  Doesn't help the other little urchin, bless her, she comes up against this brick wall constantly.  So, my number one, and the other number one will spend an hour in the library reading....doesn't seem fair to this mum.  :'(

That is sooooo mean, EJ.Wouldn't you think they could have found something else for those girlies to make? If the gingerbread men can be made with milk, I wonder if soya milk could be substituted.
Smile, it confuses people.

Crikey EJ. You'd think it was a golden opportunity to show how recipes can be tailored, making substitutions for class members with allergies, as a learning bonus. And they could have tasted the results to judge the differences for themselves. Double crikey GRRRRR >:(

Every cloud and all that!  Jessica told her teacher what mummy said about using milk, and that is what they did, she had a seperate bowl, spoon and baking sheet and come home a very happy bunny with 3 gingerbread men!!  The other little girl apparently doesn't have a problem with egg (I thought she did), so she was okay with the egg men after all.  Phewie all round!
