Can someone tell me why my peppers have black marks on them and why some appear to be a bit deformed? I have never let them dry out and never over watered them

The black marks might just be them starting to ripen. I grew them for first time last year and was worried when I started to see blackish brown streaks appear, but it was just the stage before reddening (I asked on here too!).
Not sure about the deformity, I've got some mis-shapen ones too, maybe its insect attack early on when the fruit is first developing?

Colour? As Jenny says - plenty of examples on the board.

Shape? Like everything else, as well as physical damage, poor pollination?

I'm on 'safe mode' only at present, so can't post any comforting photos.

Real home grown peppers come in an amzing range of shapes, you can also witness this when you buy peppers on the European mainland. Our supermarket peppers are all akin to one another because of the supermarket obsession with uniformity. Do not worry about shape, taste is what matters.

Blackening is a normal part of teh ripening process, so again do not worry about it.

Here to comfort you is a famous Edward Weston photo of a pepper.
