Hi all

Phew! My garden is feeling very much better from all the rain we've had! I never thought I'd be pleased to see it tip down from the heavens.

Apologies in advance if you've been asked this 20 times.

Next year I want to grow some flowers for cutting, potatoes, green manure, and some more unusual varieties of veg. I am a bit bewildered by the huge choice of seed companies and would like to know which ones the more experienced growers prefer.

I try to use chemicals as little as poss, so I do try to get varieties favoured by organic growers for disease resistance. Also since I am a newbie, some advice on which seed companies offer decent info on the seeds would be helpful.

Thanks
Jayne

Not a glossy catalogue but top rate seeds at good prices and excellent germination. I found these to be the best. Small packets and also sold by the pint

Ooh, this is a corking thread :o :D

If you're looking for plug plants, Delfland Nursery supplies most of the major seed companies, so buying from them direct is a good move. If you can visit their nursery shop, they sell plug plants for 5p each ::)

Thanks everyone

I've had a great time looking at all of these websites and the catalogues are coming through my door thick and fast now.

Now the hard bit - choosing!

You'll find more sites in the wiki under seeds/seeds catalogues

I'll send you some Achocha if you like, got mine from HSL, but it is not on sale as far as I know... a Peruvian climber, up to 12' in my experience.. not frost hardy but attractive foilage and edible pods... can eat them whole when very small but develop hard spine and seeds very quickly then can be used like small peppers and stuffed or cut into strips and frozen for stir fry.

Here's eight I prepared earlier... over an early learning centre swing frame
You can save your own seeds... just pick some out of an old pod and allow to dry..

Do try Real Seeds http://www.realseeds.co.uk/ and POD http://www.plantsofdistinction.co.uk/ for less usual varieties. I've only bought from the former, which is excellent, but I do plan to buy from both this year, as I've been drooling over some of the stuff in the POD catalogue.

I have used The Italian Seed Company. Their seeds are only £1 per pack at the moment. The seed packs were very generous and the order arrived quickly.

Hope this helps!
