Clematis Problem

I have a couple of 'group 3' (late flowering) clematis just coming into flower now. However I have noticed that some of the flowers have produced green petals (or maybe leaves where there should be petals). Read somewhere that this sometimes happens when plants are growing in shade. My Plants are in light shade next to a hedge, so can anyone confirm this for me, or is it another problem causing the 'greening'?

Thing is is there anything I can do about it? The plants are established now and have grown well this year (they have been in about 3 years), so I dont really want to have to move them. If though it is th only solution then so be it.

There are a few hybrids which do this normally with the first flowers. It is nothing to be worried about and the later flowers should be normal.

These are cultivars of late flowering species, not true hybrids. One is C. viticella  purpurea plena elegans and a white viticella.

Does this make any diference?

The white viticella does it every year with us, just on the first flowers. V. pupurea etc. has been know to throw the odd greenish flower, again early season ones mostly.

I dont supose there is anything I can do to prevent it happening?
