heres a good one for all to debate.  We all have our own tastes and preferences, mine is sungold followed by a close second golden cherry.  Gardeners delight need not apply !

Good one Ricado, best for what purpose though? Roma (plum for cooking) for me was best in terms of yield last year (average 9 kg per plant!!!) but do like Sungold for flavour. Best for snacking on the hoof has got to be cherry-pink teeny Gartenperle(Garden Pearl) :D they never get home!

With 2000 varieties, we'll be here all night?

As said - for what purpose? And anti-arthritic or not? And freezing? And colour - yes. And shape? And do you get 2 out of 3 fruits off a truss all tasting the same? And how did you grow them this year? And what was the weather? And have you done a blind tasting? And were they sprayed? Were they washed? Were they refridgerated? And sharp or sweet? Solid or juicy? Thick or thin skinned?

There is NO 'best'.  Everything you grow is a delight.

Tastes are SO different, My dear Wife can identify a double sealed pot of fresh anchovies in oil before it hits the kitchen table!!

i was thinking taste really, my tomatoes also rarely reach the kitchen until they are in full yield (a couple of weeks probably).

 Im also after better disease resistance for those i grow at work which seemingly get attacked by everything going !  The difference between those and mine at home is really drastic.  Mine at home virtually perfect, with a little leaf curling but nothing to worry about.  Those at work have done ok but dont look half as good now as they did in march, when they were 2-3ft tall.

is the second from left santa ? I seem to recognise the size and shape.  I was expecting them to be much larger, and they seem rather shrivelled this is common among and between plants.

I like my tomatoes fairly acidic, my daughter likes them sweet, my wife likes them meaty and aromatic.

Though, all that said, the tomato we all think has a truly amazing taste is Cornue des Andes. It really is something.

Ric - yes - Santa. Typically 2cm, solid, not shrivelled, early, reliable, freezes well - the only one No1 Daughter will eat!!

Variety being the spice of life, we grow at least 6 different varieties each year. There's always one which appeals especially at the time. Like White Wonder, Green Zebra, Evergreen, Pineapple .........    But taste modifies over the years.

I can't answer yet, none of them have ripen enough to eat, hence have an opinion on.

Tim those tomatoes look great. Can you tell me what the larger yellow one is?I'm hoping you'll tell me it plum lemon as lots of my toms lost their labels(Oops ::) ) and plum lemon is one I'm growing. This would help me in identifying my own.

It looks like a pepper to me.

Plum lemon is very easy to identify, it looks like a lemon.
