Pak choi (known) Choy sum (unknown)

I've eaten Pak Choi but (not knowingly) Choy Sum,. Has anyone grown it and knows what the difference is between them? Are they easy to grow?

We're thinking of trying some baby veg varieties next year.

watch out for slugs, we lost half our crop to them, we're growing pak choi in the poly and mizuna and chinese cabbage,  :)

Hi

I think the difference is down to how much of the crunchy white bit you get and how much green.

There both very nice and the slugs are drawn to them.

So far not been able to get any harvested before the slugs but am going to try again next year.

Thanks for th ewarning, I'll try them in the raised bed with copper tape round it.

PS Obviously there's nothing the slugs like better than a Chinese takeaway? Trouble is half an hour after finishing one they want another...

They also have a tendancy to flower if they do just cut the flower spike.

I though you were meant to eat the flower bits of Choy Sum?

yes, you can eat the whole lot of choy sum, including the flower heads - raw in salads (when young) or stir fired, steamed etc - haven't grown it for ages, thanks for the reminder to try again  :)

Choy Sum mean vegetables with the bolt heart ;) Their stem are all green!there're some green & purple choy sum


Pak choi' mean white vegetable. Their stem were white.
