smaller shoots on potatos

I read somewhere that it`s a good idea to rub off the smaller shoots on chitting potatos so that all the energy can go into the bigger shoots, is this true?. :-\ Don`t want to get it wrong & end up with no shoots :(

Phil Cooper's post stuck in my mind as one I wanted to remember ---- not that I've ever done it (I just stick 'em in), but it was one of those "snippets to remember for the future".

We're all different! I rub off any that are on the bottom  of the seed. I've never had time to compare results, like some have. =  Tim
