Hi everybody
I've done it!!  The first of many happy days I hope!!
Mick has left the weed killer for three weeks to make sure the roots are dead.I've been itching to get started. So talked to sister and decided to go and make a start ourselves. As I said from last time Mick had strimmed the three foot weeds down to six inches and had put weed killer on. With the good weather its all a nice golden brown with just a few convulvius coming thro'. Why does weed killer make that stuff grow?
Right a plan says I, sister to take the thousands of fifty yr old bean canes attached to a tent frame, loads of two by one pieces of wood, two normal metal fire guards and an antique one that must have been in a school room  ??? Plans starting to go out of the window ::) On closer look the whole of the plot is covered in broken glass and there are several window frames :'( Oh know we'll never get it cleared!!
But know two knights in shining armour from the plot nearby come to our aid, me picking up glass, sister pulling down bean frames, nights clearing large stuff that Mick couldn't strim. As time went on the piles of rubbish got higher and the 'lottie started to look bigger and bigger. I'm often here at four am says knight nos one (didn't ask why), if you like I'll clear the dead grass and burn it with the wood, yes says sister and I'll take some for kindling, would you like some rhubarb says I to the knight, yes he says that will be a lovely payment. Jaw hanging on the floor in disbelieve how have we done all this work. I accepted sisters offer of Sunday lunch at a local pub gratefully.
As you all know this has been such a worry to me and I've often thought it would never be done, just a few hours and it's all changed. Once its all cleared as much as we can I will be able to ring Mick who will then not have so much work to do. You know what, I feel as though I'm going to be able to do this. Yes with other peoples help but it seems on 'llotments people want to help!!
Thanks for listening I'm just so chuffed :D

metal fire guards, one an antique ???  Is this going to be one of the Great Mysteries of Life, or you gonna enlighten me, Chox?

What a FAB day you've had and what lovely Knights there are around you. Great!!

Oh! mental picture of a fireguard - years since I've seen the real thing......cloches?

Emagggie

Glad your day turned out so well, Choccie. Here's to many more of the same.  :D :D :D
Smile, it confuses people.

Hiya Lish
This fireguard was at least four foot high !!
It was so heavy that neither sister nor I could
get it off the ground.
The knights had a go at lifting it, then fearing a hernia
they even left it. :D
So it looks as tho' Mick and a few mates are going to
have to move it!!!
Not kidding you Lish this is one serious fireguard.
Probably made 1880s if I was still in the cottage
I'd have it round the open fire.
Thats if I could get anyone daft enough to deliver
it for me ! ;D
So know not cloches I'm not crawling under it because
we cant move it.
Well not till after a couple of bottles of wine anyway. ::)

So glad you're enjoying it choccy, that's what it's all about.
It's so much easier when you're hands-on - I sometimes spend ages fretting about a job that has to be done on the plot and when I get there it takes a few moments! Time expands and contracts in a wonderful way down among the veggies ::)

Your right there,I'm sure I thro' a wobbly
over the most stupid things and the ones
I should be worrying over I forget all about. :P
Nuts or what  ;D

It's brilliant isnt it - new lotty!

I got mine about 2 - 3 weeks ago now... didnt realise that my OH would do NOTHING to help me!!! but hey... I was overwhelmed by it after the first week and have only been up 3 times since...but each time i go, i do a little bit and can see where i'm going with it all now!  So between the chooks eating everything i sow and OH not helping i became a little disheartened.

I've planted some cuc's, corgettes, pumpkins. Made 4 lasagna heaps for more pumpkins, sown leeks and spring onions and keep raking and hoeing bit by bit... its amazing how much can get done.  The top end of the lotty is looking more weedy - but im not bothered as i'll get the guy to plough it or let it all die off over winter.

I even bought Grow your own and kitchen garden mags last night - which have given me a tremendous boost!

timnsal

Sounds like you had a great day! Well done  ;D

Wish mine was going that well :( Been too busy to get there for a couple of weeks.

Oh well, next week ...
