Money tree plants to give away

yes people, an indoor purely decorative item this one.

i have a large money tree and it needs a prune now and then. have cut of some sizeable chunks (3-4 inches) which are currently rooting just fine.

anyone interested in taking some off my hands? it's a very easy plant to grow - water now and then but remember none of us likes wet feet! cut off branches that are in the way and/ot twist out leading shoots to branch the tree out. kid's play, really.

forgot to mention they wont be ready until about 2 weeks time from now. better get them rooted properly first - that way they have a better chance of withstanding royal mail and being welcomed the other end :)

So Svea.........how do you get them to root successfully?  Mine only root when chunks get knocked off by the kids and land in a pot and do it themselves.  Whenever I have tried to do it they just rot!

i just put them in water for a short while, really.

my tree is fairly mature now, so it develops roots on the branches even before it touches the water, if you see what i mean. i lob off some of these branches and the root then grows very fast.

the other way of propagating them is to take a leaf, shove that into moist compost, and let it root that way.

i have successfully used both mehods before now.

Interesting.  My biggest one is quite a tangled mess and flops over the edge of the pot.  I might have a good look at it and see if I can tidy it up and take some cuttings.  Thanks for that Svea!

no, they have to be outdoors and unrestrained for that to happen.

My grandads did years ago, but I think that was luck rather than judgement!

you can put them outside in the summer, but have to bring them indoors for the winter months.
i did see them outside in the soil in southern italy two weeks ago :)

i am glad the milkbottles held up ok.

if you had any leaves that have broken off, you can make more trees by putting them in compost, and they will root quite easily, too

Already done that, only 2 leaves had fallen off and remembered my mum doing the same years ago with hers.
