Am going away for a week and won't be able to continue my nightly collection of slugs and snails (though mainly snails around here) and am worried about my aubergine seedlings which are being attacked....

What can I do???    If I get pellets - what is safest to use around children/pets??

Also... I have a bucket (with lid on) of snails I have collected  :D    What do you do with the snails and slugs you collect??

thanks :)

If your really brave you could eat the snails!!! :o

The best way, apparently, is to boil them in salted water then let them cool and chop them up finely- mix with herbs, garlic and butter and re-stuff the shells. They can then be baked and are apprently delicous! Oh, and they may also need purging, which is essentilly feeding them edible leaves for five days to make sure they're clean.

Alternatively, give them to a friend who has chickens- ours absoultely love them!

We use ferric phosphate pellets, which are safe to use around children and animals, and are organically approved. We got ours from B&Q as “Growing Success Advanced Slug Killer”.

I believe this is quite a new product, and I personally think it’s amazing: it has completely wiped out our slug population.

Forgot to add: I also get very good results from the coffee method...

Good luck,

:D :D :D :D  lol!!  mmhh.. tbh, eating snails doesn't appeal to me  :-X  :D

Friend has chickens but I don't think she would encourage me taking snails around to her... I think she has enough of her own!!

coffee method - I have just put coffee round my aubergines.......  and the dog followed me round licking it all up!  ::) ::)

Perhaps a trip to B&Q is in order....

thanks for all replies :)
