In my wildflower section of the garden, I have a plant growing that is spreading rapidly, and is beginning to look unsightly.
It appears to be about 1 inch high, but when a stalk is picked, it is about 5 inches long. The multiple heads are composed of six bright yellow blobs, which look remarkably like fly-blow, and are about the same size. They are formed into an equilateral triangle of three "blobs" per side. They are surrounded by a chocolate brown, hairy tuft. There appears to be a single leaf, part way down the stalk, which looks like a blade of grass.
Any ideas anyone?

Not really sure what I'm looking for.  ???  Does each "blob" have a tuft, or do you mean the arrangement of 6 blobs is surrounded by a tuft?

Any chance of a photo?

The hairy tufts surround the "blobs" below them, as if they were the protector of the blobs before they emerged.
The whole lot - blob + tuft is only about 3/8 inch, so a photo would not be realistic with my only digital camera (see www.focalpoint-photo.co.uk ) , and though I do have the equipment to get them on film, the results would probably be a couple of weeks away!
