Worried about bog roll holders

Hi All,
Planted, for the first time following your reports, parsnip seeds in compost in holders in a large plastic holding frame two weeks ago.
The frame is in a ventilated greenhouse, kept moist - not drowned, and today the holders have grown 'white mold' on the outside of the tubes. Bearing in mind that parsnip seeds take a couple of weeks to appear, will the seeds rot?

Don't think that it will matter. My rolls ususaly go strange when I plant beans. Don't know about the success of parsnips though. I have always had a good crop doing it natural straight in to the earth!!

Hi maggie, the concensus on A4a seems to be that it doesn't matter, it disappears along with the roll in the ground and doesn't damage the plants :)

We were wondering about this too, as our sweet corn in toilet roll tubes have a sort of orange mold on them (the holders).  Thought it must be something in the cardboard, but we are hoping it won't affect the sweet corn, so this is reassuring. busy_lizzie

One thing that perhaps one needs to pay heed to, is make sure there is no loo roll exposed when you plant  them out.

This acts as a wick and will dry out the soil.!

Yep the consensus on A4A is that it won't matter. I grew beans from them last season and the mold didn't affect them. In fact I was amazed at how well the rolls survived.
Busy_lizzie, my sweetcorn seeds were covered with an orange substance to aid germination. If yours were then maybe this is what is turning the cardboard orange.

My loorolls went moldy then it disappeared and the parsnips are up now.

Wouldn't normally pick up anybody for their spelling but reading the Grauniad is obviously affecting yours.  ;D  ;D

I always get a downy fuzz on mine, it's never bothered me nor my plantlets.

Thanks for your help folks. Am now confident to plant many other veg. seeds in holders. The O.H. produces enough of 'em!!
