newbie saying hi

Hi Forum,

I have an allotment in North East Scotland which I got at the back end of last summer. Lots and lots of marestail so I have spent most of my time  digging. I have overwintered Garlic and Onions, Raspberry Canes and Strawberries. I have planted more onions this year and have just sown some  Peas (Early Onward).

I have lurked for an age and have now decided to take the plunge and post. I have little experience of Gardening and have already learned a lot from A4ALL. Looking forward to being interactive with you all ;0)

Welcome, glad you decided to take the plunge! Whats it like gardening in the North East of Scotland? Extreme weather? Or is that just an Englishwomans prejudice?!! Keep us updated on how it all goes, good luck with the mares tail!

hello there. I got my allotment about the same time you Impatient so wil be great to hear how you are gettingalong, I am on the south coast of england so it would be interesting to see how much difference there is in timings etc. good luck with the marestail, cooch grass is my problem.

Hi, Welcome!  Glad you introduced yourself.  Looking forward to hearing how you fare in your area.  It is always interesting to see what varieties do well in different parts of the country.  Raspberries seem to do very well in Scotland I believe.  Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.  :) busy_lizzie

Thanks to all for such a great welcome.

Extreme weather in the fair county of Angus? It seems that as I age the weather mellows think we had one day of snow in 2005 and a couple so far this year. I can remember hard frosts during the tattie holidays which don't seem to materialize any more.

I have had a look at the Beechgrove Garden web site Mrs KP but can't say I'm impressed. The information on the fact sheets is very sparse, so although I'm in country I 'm not a fan.

We are famous for our rasps up here busy lizzie  my mother and father met while picking them  I'm sure the taste better when they aren't farmed under the ever growing sea of plastic though.
