sweet potatoes

Has anyone start to chit them yet i started mine about 4 weeks ago and one of them has slips about 3-4 inches long on it how long should i let them get before i cut them off and try to root them? Does anyone have any tips on getting them to root?

At the top of the page there is a button marked wiki, click on this, then edible plants, then list of vegetables, scroll down to sweet potato, click.
