Firstly I give up, secondly I apologise. I thought I had remembered who posted a pic of their feeding station a little while ago. I have just scrolled through dozens of posts, thinking I was being good!!!! Still can't find it. I am beginning to have serious doubts about my memory, I often can't remember what I had for breakfast and seeing it is always toast or porridge it does make me wonder ::)
Would the member please please point me in the right direction, I have an idea and when I can see the pic I will be able to share my idea with you.

Lorna there was that wonderful photo of lots of Goldfinches about a month ago, was that it?  I have tried searching for it but can' :)t find it and am trying to remember who posted it, but  like you can't, so you're not the only one, it will puzzle me all day!

Anyhow the idea!! I was telling son John about it the other day and he said "What the heck is it?" (His only hobby is fast cars and his GSD ;D) I tried to explain, he said get a picture for me.(just going to email it to him). Outcome is that Charlie, his Dad did a lot of wrought iron things for me and I have quite a lot of metal/steel (whatever it is called) in the garage. I gave John his Dad's "bending" tool and also his welder, although John has bought a  more modern welder now SO FOLK it looks like I will get one made for me when he has a spare day. Watch this space, may be a little while, depends how busy he is., he has to make sure he hasn't any signs to make that day.

Wow Lorna, to get your own custom designed bird feeder will be brilliant.  After much searching I too have found the photo.  I have had a similar arrangement for about a month now and have been thrilled with it.  It took a little while for the birds to get used to it but they are on it most of the day now.  The worst thing is that I get disctracted by the birds when I should be getting on with my chores!

Thank you very much both. Is that something one can buy or was it home-made (like Lorna's going to be)? It would certainly deter the squirrels - my main reason for no longer putting out fat balls or those particular feeders OR half-coconuts.....or anything else, really. >:(

I used to be able to put out all those & I'd just love to be able to do so again.

Alishka. Only just got back from John's workshop. He is going to pick the steel up this week so that he has it ready  in his workshop. Thanks to Gw for putting up pics, oh boy if I can get birds like that I will be in 7th heaven.. I am going to decide with him if he can put a base on it so that I can move it round the garden a bit.

Alishka, mine is made by Gardman which is sold in lots of Garden Centres, I have included the above link to their website which shows some of the items they sell.  You can mix and match and add bits if you wish, so you can get it tailor-made to your design.  It was great fun deciding what to have.  I can recommend the mesh tray, our robin loves feeding friom it and the seed doesn't get soggy.

The bird feeder I have was bought from Flowerland Garden Centre in Salisbury over a year ago.  The poles slot together and at the bottom there is a prong so it is easy to fix into the ground and can be moved without any effort.  I initially only had the poles and the two pieces that go on the top that the feeders hang from.  A few months ago, as part of my Christmas present, my OH bought me the feeding tray and bird bath.  It wasn't cheap and in total was probably about £35+ but it is very well made.  I haven't got a picture of the bottom half of the pole to show how it fixes into the ground but will get one and post it on here.  Here's another picture.

Pauline you're an angel ! - many thanks. All looks do-able to me. Housebound at the mo, but I'll start looking around next week. Got a strong neighbour who could bash it into the ground. It will be SO lovely to give the little birds a dining room again - really going to go for it.

Pauline. Thanks once again from me. I don't for one moment think my John made one will look as professional as yours. I hope you don't mind but I sent him email showing the photo you put up as he didn't have a clue what I was talking about.. He will do his best and it will be a freebie for his old Mum ;D ;D ::) I now have another approx 18ins extra usable width in my garage. This is where they took all the metal from today. Alishka, you don't bash it into the ground, you just put your foot onto the horizontal prong and push it in.  It is very easy to move.  It only took a few seconds to take it apart yesterday to take the photo of the prongs.   ;)

Lorna, I am so pleased that John is going to make you one and look forward to seeing it when I call on you later in the year whilst visiting my niece.  Meanwhile, please could we have a picture on here when it is made and in situ?   :D

I suggest you put it as far away from the house as you can to begin with in the hope of attracting those alusive finches.  Once they have found it, you could move it each week, two or three feet nearer the house.

I am sorry I didn't see your original post Lorna when you were searching for the bird feeder picture.   :(   I could have saved you a lot of looking!  I was out all day Monday and it wasn't until the evening that I saw your post.
