Nobody told me that seed buying was an addiction. I jsut got my plot last April so a lot of my plants cam from other allotment holders and they all turned out well. This year I have bought my own seeds and I just can't stop. I have tomato seeds arriving next week and I already have lots from other poeple on here and ont he freecycle network.
A health warning should be printed on these packets to warn you of the danger. ::)

LOL...welcome Mimi and Roy. We could start our own support group, however as far as addictions go it's better than some. I ahve given up my other addiction for Lent....it's chocolate.

Mimi

Saddest thing is though...................I havent even got an allotment any more. :-\

Umm, this is hard, but I suppose we need to come out at some point... may I join the addict circle?  Luckily my colleagues put up with me, as most of my parcels arrive at work  ::)

I can't say I really have a huge collection of seeds, although I have quite a lot and I understand how it could get really addictive (like A4A) but 2 things hold me back.
One is that I don't know how long they would keep for and the other that even with two plots I don't think I will even be able to  use what I've already got.

shocked myself last night when I decided to get seeds out to see what I can think about planting this month - have a carrier bag full and its only my first year.  Discovered 3 packets of the same variety of tomato  :-\ must STOP !  OH revealed that he doesn't actually like radish .. now that i have 2500 of them, tsk

fluffygrue

I'm an addict too. :(

I have one large tin of veg seeds, another of flower seeds. I just can't help swapping seeds.. and also buying them as lots on eBay. :(

(Not seen any on Freecycle yet, unfortunately!)

Phew...not alone any more with my addiction.    :)

I've had to go buy all new seeds for this year after a disaster with my stash.   The new seeds have now been upgraded to a smart new box with dividers so I know which month to sow them all in.

As the box is clear I can also see the pictures on front of the packets & that's enough to get me dreaming of a self-grown lunch.

ok, so I buy a packet of seeds now & then.  I'm not hooked, I can handle it, I could stop any time I like.

But I did throw out about 35 packets of seeds last month as they were over 5 years old minimum.  I forget I've got half a packet left over form last year and buy some more each spring.  Then there are those lovely web sites to order from when I'm having a bad day at work.

OH's dad has started ordering seeds form on-line organic & heritage suppliers so only gets a few seeds each time, I'm moving over to his way of thinking - is it only me that begrudges paying £1.49 for 300 seeds when I only want 50?
is it in the sale?

Throwing seeds away? I noted a fun way to deal with old seeds suggested by supersprout, later in the summer on a patch of cleared ground just broadcast the seeds. At worst nothing will come up, then possibly some green manure, and at best some extra vegetables !

Eep, throw seeds away? Sometimes I go one step further than a prepared bed and just cast them into the breeze and see if anything lands somewhere suitable.. Means I sometimes get surprise plants.. :)

And they also don't tell you that once they all start germinating and sprouting, you can't contain the urge to buy and plant more.
Wonder if it's hormonal ;D ;D
