Yes Tim.  Happened to us and it was a cast iron down pipe which had filled with silt, backed up due to blocked drain.  Before we lived there o'course.  Anyway one day it fell off and hit my old man on the knee  :o   We always get blocked pipes and gutters, hoppers from all the leaves we get, mostly from next door
