Hi hope you all had a great christmas.

I would like some advice on making a humain slug trap as I do not like kiling slugs and snails. They provide alot of food for birds and frogs. Also I like them  :-\.

Is there any methord where I could catch them and so release them unharmed on the field opposite our site.

I have found out by trial and error that slugs like beer and snails aint that fond of it. (But not this snail  ;D)

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks

I've found the best way to catch them alive is to put something down on the ground for them to hide underneath, like a plank of wood or carpet. They shelter from the sun under this during the day, all you need to do is lift it and pick them off the underside. I do this for snails in the garden, then feed them to my chickens. :)

1/2 melon, grapefruit or (large) oranges skins turned upside down also attract slugs, just leave out overnight between plants, pick up, turn over walk to hens (or far side of field) and shake off slugs from underneath.

Slugs won't travel across sharp grit, copper wire or hair.

Thanks for your suggestions. I know it sounds daft a gardener how love its enemy, but hey I like all living things, including snails, slugs and plants.

But couch grass and bindweed is a different matter.
