cold feet!!

Anyone got tried and tested ways of keeping your feet warm on the lottie?? Have tried the 2 pairs of socks....tights under socks...even plastic bags, but no matter what I do my feet always get freezing in this weather. I usuually have to get in the car take wellies and socks off, put feet up against dashboard heater....get cramp!...and wait until they've warmed up!! Then start working again. As you can imagine I get a few strange looks doing this:(

Regularly spending many hours outside in freezing cold weather pruning, I know the problem. What I wear (which works for me):
Steel toecapped leather lace up boots, well dubbined, with foil insoles, then on top of those fleece insoles, then one pair or thin woollen socks, then one pair of thick woollen mix ski socks.
I find that wellington boots (no matter how expensive the type) just aren't warm enough!

I wear an old pair of walking boots which would be similar to Jenny's I suppose although not as safe.  OH has a pair of fur lined toe capped boots from screwfix which he says are great with some thick walking socks.  For me there is nothing worse than cold feet.  I spend a lot of time watching my sons play football and need warm feet!

I have a pair of thermal ski sock, they were a gift a few years ago and feet stay warm with them on. I can pulll them up to my knee they are great. ;D

Like Jennym, I also use industrial steel toe capped boots, basically an old pair which have been replaced at work. I find the best socks for me are the white loop stitch leisure socks often sold in discounts stores, eg B-wise sell them 5 pairs for £2, so I bought 4 packs. I then wear them double in this weather, and my feet end up as warm as toast. However, what is probably important is to keep moving, as feet can get very cold when just stood still.

DMs here, and they really keep my toes really toasty, it's my hand that get so cold!! Have been known to wear gloves whilst on here.... ::) ::) ::)

Steel toe-capped old work boots for me too and a pair of work issued thermal socks. :)

As any farmer and they will tell you wellingtons are hopeless. No insulation and rapidly freezing toes. Trouble is they go keep you feet dry.

At home on the farm, if it is dry but cold we tend to wear leather boots with thick socks. If wet we wear wellies but have boots that are a size too large so we can wear very thick socks and quilted liners.

Even expensive boots (at £150 plus a pair) like:

I'm a DM girl too! 20 year-old bottle green 16 eyes. I wear terry towelling socks and my feet sometimes get too hot! Agree about the wellies being a bit cold but handy when 'tis wet. I've got thermal welly liners for them.

When I worked at a riding school as a teenager, I used to wear about five or six pairs of Cotton socks under my boots (natural fibres are much better insulators than manmade). Also plastic bags towards the outer layer and silver foil after the first pair of socks. Still got cold feet (I have bad circulation).

The trick is as well to occassionally stop and wiggle your toes to keep the blood flowing.

I already have chill blains from yesterday - itchy feet argh! Must get the balmosa out again.

Debbie will wear her walking boots up the plot but mine are just for walking.  Hopefully my steelies should be OK if I can find them.  They were too big so they will take a good pair of thermal walking socks.

Walking boots for me to.  YOu could also try neoprene liners with , then coton socks,  silk socks.  Neoprene to keep the heat in and insulate, silk for heating, cooton for comfort.

Neoprene gloves are brilliant but never tried socks - thinking of it...can you get neoprene socks????  Mmmmmmm

I wear them on long car journeys in the winter - I have poor circulation so get very cold feet.  They seem to work quite well - if you search the House of Bath site for neoprene you'll see they also sell neoprene wellies! - I haven't tried these but they sound like a good idea for cold allotmenting (should perhaps say I've not been that impressed with some of the other things I've got from H of B though - but they do let you return things if you don't think they're any good).

Walking boots with thermal socks for me too, I also have a pair of flannel lined jeans that keep me nice n toastie! Oh and thermal vest and gloves too! ;D

if you get frozen pizzas etc, they sometimes come on thin polystyrene sheets which can easily be cut to make innersoles for wellies.
i am assured by a committed angler that these really make a difference.
also, if you rock on the balls of your feet (rather like stereotypical policemen) you increase bloodflow which helps.

What about those little heat bags, cant remember the name, you can get for keeping your hands warm, you buy them from fishing/golf  or ski shops. They warm up with movement and they are amazing when in my pockets, never thought about them in my shoes though.

Yes, I thought the wellies were a bit much too!  The other things aren't exactly socks - they just go over your toes - you are supposed to wear them inside your socks so they stay in place.
