OK, dead chuffed, cos it worked!! The avocado grew.  :o Have pinched out the growing tip, and it's now producing side shoots. Is there any chance it would survive in unheated PT, so I could plant it in ground when got bigger? And any chance of  avocados? Lottie

Mrs Ava

Definately not hardy!  And they hate being baked!!  My poor advocado stood about 5 or so foot tall, and lived in our conservatory, where one hot summers day, it got very very singed, and never recovered!  Decided never to try again....and now have 2 on the go!!  I believe they live very humid conditions and thing they have to be huge mature trees before they flower!

Sigh.. so no avocados then , EJ? Oh well, could boot kids and OH out and plant it in lounge... ;D ;D ;D :)

Aussie Chick

My mum has one in the ground in Brisbane. It hasn't flowered for 8 years, then this year after adding Potash it had the most amazing amount of flowers on it- until one night of fierce winds- no flowers left. She's really dissapointed. Hopefully next year it will flower again.

Sounds beautiful!! Your poor mum, must have been so disappointed! What are the flowers like? Since it doesn't look likely I'll ever see any.. ::) Lottie

Aussie Chick

Not very exciting really, just small and white!

Don't care, Aussie!! When obsessed as I am with the dam thing, could be small green and smell disgusting!!! Want one!! Thank you though. Are they scented?

I don't know Lottie, I will ask Mum. I don't even know if she grew hers from Seed. I know they don't drink much water.

Thanks Aussiechick! Think I may have been giving it too much, will only water when dry now.  Lottie  ;D
