Hi Everyone

I have been a lottie since Sunday. I am sooooo excited. I am going to spend this weekend weeding my half plot and digging it over with the help of my cousin. And I am going out on Saturday to buy the brightest pair of pink wellies I can find.

I have already taken a couple of photos of my plot and I am going to keep a diary with photographic evidence.

I have do many ideas its keeping me awake at night. Hubby says I'm a saddo and need to get out more. I pointed out that I am going to be getting out a lot more thank you very much.

Any helpful tips in preparing the soil that does'nt involve hauling too much S**t would be appreciated.

Thanks All

Hello

Take no notice of your old man or anyone else.  It's your plot and you can do what you like with it and spend as much time on it as you like.  You'll probably end up spending more time there than your husband will like, so he'll come looking for you, and then you can pressgang him into helping you do the digging.  It's not sad at all, it's lovely and addictive.  Not very good on the nails though.  Good idea about photos as they serve as a memory aid as you soon forget what went where if you don't keep some sort of record. Mine is mostly photos as well.  Don't forget to post some on here.  I'm not the one to advise on ground prep though but someone on here will be a mine of info you can be sure.  Get some horse muck (it's lighter than cow's) and get some compost bins as you'll need to start chucking your weeds etc to rot down, so you can return all that lovely goodness back into your soil.  Keep your kitchen waste, eg peelings, tea bags, coffee grounds, washed out egg shells, paper, cardboard, newspaper, lawn mowings etc all can go to make brilliant free compost for your plot.  Making your own compost is also seen to be a bit sad but it's satisfying and lots of folks on here, me included, are hooked on it.  Getting my old main trained into it as well and he's taken to the kitchen waste thing very well and now tells me off if anything misadvertently goes into the wrong bin  ;D
I came, I saw, I composted

Hello,

We started on our lottie in May, and do it as a his'n'hers exercise.  It's actually very companiable, so maybe you should persuade your husband to join in.

Starting when we did, we frantically cleared enough of the undergrowth to plant quite a lot of things, and have had some good results even in a few months.  We're just starting to clear the other two thirds of the plot!  You'll be able to start properly in the spring, although fruit bushes and canes can be planted in the autumn.

As to digging, we dig out the big weeds, the use a rotavator, but this is a subject of much hot debate.  :o
