club root

a lot of my brassicas have got club root. i am planting peas in the bed next year. how do i get rid of the club root and will it affect the peas

you cant realy get rid of club root,you should put plenty of lime on the land where the clubroot is and try not to walk on the area as it can be transfered on your shoes to other parts of your garden,when you plant brassicas in future put plenty of lime in the planting hole,this will help control clubroot,and it does not affect the plant,it does work as you get to harvest the crop although some plants might have traces of clubroot.....good luck

thanks for that davey. when i planted the brassicas i put 1:10 jays fluid in the hole and when that had soaked in put a handfull of lime in but it doesnt seemed to have worked but thanks anyway

There have been threads about this b4 .One said to put a one inch piece of Rhubarab in the hole when planting and it does work.I tried it and had good results.

G0OD news Wardy it ain't clubroot else your roots would  have been all swollen and fat ..Was there hardly any root and a bit of brown at bottom ? If that was the case it is cabbage root fly..I had a Email from suttons that says they have come up with a cabbage that will grow on clubroot infested land .It has been trialled  all over Europe .

There is also a calabrese that is club root tolerant. I grew it this year and it has performed very well cropping from July to now. It is called Trixie.

Both my plot s have club root. I have tried the chemical control with lime and got OK results. Next year I will have plenty of rhubarb as the two crowsn I planted 12 months ago have put on lots of growth and we resisted any harvest.

Thats a good thread for me as well because I thought I had club root but in fact sounds more like the fly eating the roots on one or two plants.

I think club root might mean getting a new plot if it happened to me - I like brassicas too much.
