The Kings Allotment Gardeners catalogue came through the door this morning, yippeeee!!! ;D ;D Do many people order from their society catalogue, the prices seem a lot cheaper than in the shop. :)

I certainly do, the prices appear about half the normal retail price. There is an extensive range available too.

Will get our catalogues in the next fortnight ...

Yep, love their big thick catalgoue full of big pics  :).  Order order using their discount scheme via the lotty shed.  Great value stuff.  My big order came to less than £20 including two bags of seeds spuds  :)

I use Kings, but how do I get an alloment discount, anyone know? We don't have a shed or society on our site. :'(

BAGGY

I want to know too as when I asked the lotty chairman he said they didn't bother and barked at me about it being a daft idea.
Get with the beat Baggy

You can be an individual customer DP, but there is a minimum order value, and delivery is during the daytime as per business deliveries ...

I have just received my catalogue and intend to browse through it this afternoon. If I find any other information, I will update this post ok?

Doris_Pinks

Thanks for that Derek! Looks like I shall have to stay an individual member and pay more...mind you it still works out as one of the cheaper companies!

Exactly DP.  If you could get a posse of peeps on here with you then you might qualify for a discount.

Shame about your short sighted lotty society Baggy.

I've done my order Derek for the first time but I was astonished at the low prices  :)

I placed a order with Kings last year, The reason why the seed is so cheap is its stale. Some of the packets of seed were over 2 years out of date. I had a poor gemination rate, the onion sets that I had from Kings I stored with the sets that I obtained locally The sets from Kings rotted with a month of delivery.

2 years out of date?  Hmmmm ........  :(

We order seeds from Kings thru our local allotment society (FEDAGA)  and certainly have never had out of date seed supplied - that is disgraceful but what was their response when you complained Powerspade?  You should have demanded a refund and if refused then taken the matter further.

We do buy seed from other suppliers as well and I'm  not saying Kings are faultless but all our results have been fine this year again and I've never heard anyone on the site complain.  We also got our seed potatoes and onion sets from them - good results again.
Equality isn't everyone being the same, equality is recognising that being different is normal.

I ordered quite a few seeds from Kings last year being my first year growing at the allotment, germination was good with everything except one pack of lettuce seeds. However I didn't buy onion sets or seed potatos from them as the site secretary recommended that our garden centre was better for that.

Robert_Brenchley

I used King's via the allotment association for several years before I got drummed out over false allegations of stealing. I'm now back in, so I'll be on the scheme again. I never had any out of date seed at all, and my potatoes did well the one year I used them; I can get them cheaper locally. Same with onion sets.

Derekthefox

Our allotment association has a structured ordering system which seems to work quite well. The seeds are ordered from Kings, orders must be in by End of Oct, so the association can benefit from reduced costs. Potatoes and onion sets can be ordered in bulk from another local supplier, that supplies to all the allotment sites in Coventry ... Then sundries, chemicals, canes etc are supplied by a local horticultural supplier.

I for one am impressed by the success that this system has created, and it has saved me  a lot of hard earned cash too.

I love the Kings catalogue. Hope they send out the normal, non-allotment one now too. Can't wait to get it.
gone to pot :D

It's good Aqui as there are really good explanations in it and good pictures to help you make your mind up.  Suffolk Herbs is another good catalogue (same company as Kings but different book)
