Lettuce seeds planted

very basic I know but . . . . .

I have planted some lettuce seedlings (salad bowl and little gem) with my 4 year old and they are in the garden in seed trays at the moment.
should I have kept them inside? Or, should they have some sort of protection coverwise?

I have a very expectant 4 year old who will be devastated if they fail to germinate (I have also sown cress inside which could be substituted in an emergency!)

any advice gratefully received.

You should get some baby salad leaves - I planted a row of the same selection on the plot last week.  I garden with an enthusiastic four year old as well.  Been at it 8 months now and she is learning the art of patience when it comes to growing things.  Good luck and enjoy the leaves when they come.  If you have any left as the weather worsens, I am sure a bit of fleece will prolong them that bit longer.

Thanks for the advice, it's a bit windy and wet here today but the forecast for the rest of the week is good so fingers crossed they will have a chance to germinate.
4 year olds are great in the garden aren't they! She absolutely loves it, she spends more time playing with worms and snails mind.
Will get some fleece today just incase though.

I sowed chinese mixed leaves, spring onions and turnips the other day with my 11 year old niece and the chinese leaves and turnips are through already  :)  Foul weather today but I think they'll be fine  :)
