Multi coloured chutters

Have a huge vat of River Cottage Chutney bubbling away on the cooker, but I am renaming this one has 'Hugh's Technicolour Dream Chuts' due to the fact I have used, yellow courgettes, green and red tomatoes, purple and black chillis, dark green sweet pepper and white fleshed cooking apples!  Smells fab!

My kids don't Daisymay, they moan that  I am always cooking something, and they  don't much like the smell of cooking chutney!

As you know I too am cooking Hugh Fernely whatsisnames chutters, and I bet mine looks pretty much like yours!!! And yes maons about the stink all round! ;D   Good rainey day therepy though!

Hi all

I went to the Wisley 'Berry Day' earlier this year, with the local Hort Soc.  They had 'traffic jam' - gooseberry in the bottom, apricot in the middle and strawberry on the top - it looked marvellous.

I thought I'd have a bash, but I might have to cheat a bit with the green as my gooseberry is invariably a bit weak in colour- could use apple and mint jelly - what would be your combination of choice?

I thought it would be a good giveaway for all those Christmas bazaars and things.

oooooooooo RosieM what a good idea! Worth an experiment! Thinking more along  the lines  of jam as the rest of the family don't  eat a lot of chutters. Goosegog on the bottom.....yellowjam.....will have to think, I suppose plums can be quite yellow, and strawb and raspberry on the top!

DP, no chance mate! Tastes FABULOUSO already, and it hasn't  had it's 3 months mature yet!  ;D Actually, one thing I will say, the courgettes are nice and firm in it, where the marrow last time just went to a pulp. Good chunky texture this time!

Also, did a variation on your courgette cake using butter (don't like the flavour or texture veg oil gives to a cake) and a few extra sultanas and it is gorgeous!!

Am currently down to 1courgette in the house, the lowest since cropping began!

Loved the smell of cooking River Cottage chutters when I made it last year.  On our last jar now so time to make some more. :D
