Bun

We reaped our first lot of goodies from the lottie yesterday.

Am very proud, if not a little astonished!
Young son with a prize parsnip

Young son with prize onion.

Dodgy pic of onions, beetroot, a forked parsnip & bit of young sons head.

The days harvest minus the 4lb of blackberries.

Just to give you an idea of size.
'Twas a bugger to pull up!  ;D

Great haul of lottie veg.  You must feel very satisfied Bun.  My OH wanted me to dig one of my parsnips up today but I resisted even though they are looking good.  After seeing yours however I feel a little bit tempted.  We left our lottie this afternoon with a lettuce, some radishes, potatoes, cabbage, some broccoli florets and a cucumber from the greenhouse.  Even picked some blackberries on the way home.  It is a lovely time of year.  :) busy_lizzie

Good haul - and your son's the best of the bunch  :)

Bun

Thanks guys, I am quite proud & yes, you're right, my son is the best of the bunch!  ;D
I wasn't purposely trying to grow really big veg, it was our first time in a lottie & we only dug the bed over late winter & then put some chicken poo & growmore on it.

I was however, trying to grow really big pumpkins, but the day after I planted them out in June we had a cold night & that really hurt them. Then the foxes dug most of them up a few times & then the slugs moved in.  :'( I only have about 4 pumpkins growing at the moment & they're only the size of apples.  :-[

La di dah.  :-\

Oh, btw, you were right , my OH was playing with the puter & set the security too high. Fanks.  :)

Those parsnips are making me hungry.. I stick in the bottom of the fridge for a day or two before cooking them at this time of year (they get much more flavour after the first frosts), then boil and roast em. lovely.
