We are definitely losing our battle against the weeds and have run out of things to plant so our nicely dug patches are rapidly resembling the jungle they once were.
How depressing!
We are thinking we should cover the bare and remaining weedy areas with some black plastic or something - any tips on where to get this from and what to buy would be very gratefully received!

Hi there,

The cheapest we could find in our area came from B&Q, it's two metres wide.  Its woven and lets in the rain.

Carpet fitters usually have skips out the back of their shops with old carpet and underlay, do you one nearby?

Failing that buy a good hoe! ;D

The heavy duty stuff which won't allow weeds to grow through it is known as red stripe.  I have just got myself a roll but it's not the red one but same quality.  the manufacturer is Tenax.  I got mine from Allplaz and it was the cheapest price I could find.  I got an offcut of butyl at the same time for a pond for my lotty for £4!   www.allplaz.co.uk
