I just went out to water the hanging basket tomatoes and realised that a paving stone I have set in the gravel path was covered in bits of snail shell.

Very empty snail shell.

I have a thrush anvil! Yippeee! Now all I have to do is lurk with the camera and hope I can catch it in the act...

I have one too and it's cleared my garden of snails.  All I find now are empty shells.  I think the population of thrushes has grown due to no chemicals, an expanse of lawn, plenty of trees and lots of worms  :)  I used to be overrun with snails as I have very old walls which they seem attracted to but since encouraging wildlife I have trouble finding any  :)

I have one also, and watched it in action.  Very impressive and very pleased and is very accomodating as it uses one of the stepping stones in the lawn right by the conservatory so I can get a 'birds eye' view!  ;D

This one's by the conservatory too, and is ironically the stone the cat often sits on. She's of course disgusted we won't let her out if there's a bird hopping about the lawn (we don't have a flap so we can control where she is).  Just sits at the back door making weird squacking noises!

I haven't used slug pellets for some years (as the loss of my delphiniums attests) but it's been worth it for seeing the thrushes.

moonbells, who has a day off so hopefully will see it !
