Does anyone know what causes green tomatoes to split? One of the older men on my allotments has green plum tomatoes (Inca) that are splitting. He does not know what is causing it, he has had red ones split before but never green. Said I would ask on here and let him know if I got any info.

My best guess would be lack of water (hush my mouth - I rarely water)

Red - uneven water. Green - ??

I would favour uneven watering, bearing in mind some extremely warm weather . . .

Having just googled, I suggest it is a result of either

1) uneven growth, caused by temperature and watering variations
2) excessive fruit temperature caused by sun etc

Big knife......? Sorry!! Agree with Derek, think lack or uneven watering!! Or big knife.  Lottie  ;D
