Your garden is looking lovely Richard.  You have really worked hard. 

Talking of rain, we have had the first rain here in Herts for some weeks now and how welcome it is.  The grass verges and lawns were beginning to look like a desert.

I too would like to know what the blue flower it - thought it was a delphinium at first but probably not tall enough :-\

Thank you all for your nice comments about my garden. Yes a lot of hard work, but the result is welll worth it. I am more than happy to share it with you all.

The blue plant in the first photo is a Veronica called (aptly) ' Shirley Blue'.  Usualy quite low growing but seems to have grown taller this year for some reason.  The timely addition of a support has prevented it flopping over the lawn.

I am glad you think the veg plot looks good too. I've had a few problems this year, so its not as far forward as it usualy is at this time of year.

It HAS  been dry here in Dorset until recently. Have had loads of watering to do, of pots and the veggies, but not the herbaceous beds, which I try to avoid watering unless its really nessesary.  The lawn never gets artificialy irrigated. I dont really see the need.

Marianne, you couldnt  have paid a better compliment. I have always admired 'Country manor' herbaceous borders, and have tried to create that feel in my own 'herbaceous border'. At less than 2m wide the border will never have the same depth as its larger cousins, but that doesnt matter as long as it gives the right 'feel'.

Oh nearly forgot. Have never measured it but the whole rear garden is roughly 100 feet long. The front is probably less than a quarter of that but still large enough! That part isnt quite so good as i am still working on it.
